Slashed: 2014 Ford Focus Electric Price Drops $4000 to $35,995

Buyers of the 2014 Ford Focus Electric will save $4000 compared to the 2013 model, with the EV hatchback starting at $35,995 before government incentives for 2014. The price cut comes less than a month after the automaker said it would not lower prices like some of the competition, The Detroit News reports.

2014 Ford Focus EV left rear 1 300x199 image? We?re not going to chase down to the lowest price possible ? that doesn?t make sense to erode the brand image or the true value of the product,? Nancy Gioia, Ford?s director of global electrification told The Detroit News last month.

Ford isn?t the first automaker to lower its electric vehicle?s price: Nissan and Honda have dropped prices on their respective EVs, while GM is currently offering $4000 cash off the 2013 Volt PHEV ($39,995 down to $35,995) or special financing for qualified buyers. While the incentives on the Volt may have been instituted to make room for 2014 models, we?ll know whether the lower prices will remain when pricing for the 2014 Volt is revealed next month.? Despite the price cut, the Focus EV is still $6345 more than the lowest-priced Nissan Leaf EV.

All prices include destination, and don?t take into account federal (up to $7500) or state (up to $2500) incentives.
