Sunrise Police have a mystery on their hands.
What started as a call about shots fired into cars in a shopping plaza parking lot led police to a dead body on a nearby golf course.
Here?s what was known Monday: Sometime around 4 a.m. a Sunrise officer on routine patrol heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of the Springtree Country Club Plaza, 3800 block of North University Drive.
At the same time, police received a 911 call about shots being fired into cars in a nearby plaza, which houses Goldfinger Gentlemen?s Club and a Hooters restaurant a few feet north.
Two cars -- a gray Mazda 6 and a gray Nissan Sentra -- were discovered, riddled with bullet holes. At the adjacent Seven Bridges at Springtree golf course, the body of an unidentified man lay on the greens, some 15 feet from the parking lot.
He had been shot to death.
What was not known: the victim?s name.
?We are still trying to piece together the details,? said Sunrise Police spokeswoman Cindi McCue.
The parking lot and the golf course share a hedge line.
A man who answered the phone at the golf course declined to comment, referring calls to Sunrise Police.
Officers were canvassing the area early Monday to see what businesses were open at the time of the shooting.
?There were a lot of people out there in the morning,? McCue said.
Late Monday, police still were working on notifying next of kin. Friends of the victim told The Miami Herald news partner WFOR CBS-4 that the victim was in his 30s and a fath er.
Most of the businesses in the plaza were closed at 4 a.m. However, a few, including Goldfinger Gentlemen?s Club and Fins & Things Caribbean Seafood Bar and Grill, stay open late, according to some business owners in the area. It was not clear if they were still open at the time of the shooting.
Hooter?s restaurant closed at about 11 p.m. last night and staff left around midnight, said Jeff Richmond, the restaurant?s manager. Staff returned at about 7 a.m.
?We were completely gone at that time.?
Richmond said there had been a few vehicle break-ins in the parking lot recently, but no serious incidents.
?There has been nothing violent in the parking lot,? Richmond said.
Goldfinger closes at 3 a.m. on Sunday nights, said manager Brandon Grodski
?Everyone was out of here by 3:20,? he said. ?We have no idea what happened.?
By Monday afternoon, police had removed the body, and the punctured cars.
McCue said investigators are hoping that ?someone saw something.?
?Those little pieces of information sometimes can lead to solving the case,? she said.
