Woman who lost face in chimp attack to get $4 million: reports

(Reuters) - A woman who underwent a full face transplant after being mauled by a chimpanzee will receive about $4 million from the estate of the animal's owner, who has since died, according to media reports on Thursday.

Charla Nash was attacked in February 2009, when her friend's 200-pound chimpanzee went on a rampage and ripped off her nose, lips, eyes and hands.

The chimp was shot and killed by a police officer.

Nash's brother, Michael, filed a lawsuit on his sister's behalf, seeking $50 million from the estate of the chimp's owner, Sandra Herold, who died in 2010.

Brenden Leydon, an attorney for Herold's estate, said the case was settled, according to an article published online by the Connecticut Post. He did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation or details.

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, Nash will receive $4 million from the estate.

Nash and Herold had been longtime friends, and Nash had gone to Herold's home in Stamford, Connecticut, to help get the chimp back in its cage.

An attorney for Nash also could not be reached for comment.

Jelly Bean nigh for the Droid RAZR HD/MAXX (Update starts next week)

Verizon's adding the Amazon suite of applications along with Android 4.1 improvements

We've known an Android 4.1 update has been in the works for the Droid RAZR HD (and its beefcake "MAXX" cousin) -- that leaked out at the beginning of the month. Looks like things are cranking up, though, as the update documentation just went live. It's a hefty update -- about 276 megabytes -- but you'll get the early Jelly Bean features (such as Google Now) along with it.

Plus, Verizon's promising better voice and data connectivity, along with some other bugfixes. Also of note is that it's removed the preloaded Color application (which recently was bought by Apple), along with Verizon video, and it's added in the Amazon suite of apps, same as what we've seen on the Droid DNA.

No word on exactly when we can expect the update, so keep an eye out. Update: Verizon now says the update will start next week.
