PFT: Peyton's arm strength remains a question

600_128637045Getty Images

For an athlete caught using steroids, the four-game suspension is nothing compared to the scarlet ?S? that gets applied to their permanent P.R. record.

The player never will be viewed the same way. ?If he succeeds, cynics will say it?s because he?s using steroids. ?If he becomes average or worse, the fact that he?s not using steroids any longer will be identified as the reason.

But since the league says nothing publicly about the reason for a suspension imposed under the NFL policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances, the player who is suspended can say whatever he wants ? and the league never will correct the record.

Previously, players popped for steroids blamed a spiked over-the-counter supplement. ?Even if anyone ever bought that excuse, no one does anymore.

And so it could be that the new non-steroid alibi arises from Adderall, a prescription ADD medication.

Giants safety Tyler Sash blames his four-game suspension on Adderall. ?Previously, Packers defensive end Mike Neal did the same thing. ?Both claim they were using it with a prescription.

If they?re telling the truth (and we?re not saying they aren?t), why didn?t the NFL reduce or eliminate their suspensions?

Giants running back Andre Brown was using Adderall with a prescription but without advance approval from the league. ?He tested positive, he appealed, and his suspension was lifted. ?Ditto for Texans punter Brett Hartmann, whose four-game suspension was cut to three ? and who now has approval to take Adderall.

If Neal and Sash are telling the truth, the NFL?s procedures seem to be horribly inconsistent. ?(Then again, even if Neal and Sash aren?t telling the truth, the fact that Brown got no suspension and Hartmann received three games makes no sense.)

Either way, Adderall provides players with a convenient strategy for avoiding the stigma of steroids. ?The fact that league can say nothing about the facts and circumstances surrounding the suspension allows the players to say whatever they want.

EU approves Afinitor for certain breast cancers

(AP) ? Swiss drug maker Novartis AG says it has received European approval to market Afinitor for treatment of women with the most common form of advanced breast cancer.

Afinitor is already approved to treat various tumors of the pancreas, kidney and brain.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the pill-based drug earlier this month for use in combination with Aromasin for postmenopausal women with recurring hormone receptor positive breast cancer lacking the protein HER2.

Novartis said Monday that the European Commission's approval was based on a trial of more than 700 patients showing those treated with the two drugs lived significantly longer before their disease progressed.

The company said recently its annual sales of Afinitor could rise above the $1 billion mark with the new approvals.

(AP) ? Tony Martin, the romantic singer who appeared in movie musicals from the 1930s to the 1950s and sustained a career in records, television and nightclubs from the Depression era into the 21st century, has died. He was 98.

Martin died of natural causes Friday evening at his West Los Angeles home, his friend and accountant Beverly Scott said Monday.

A peer of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Martin sang full voice in a warm baritone that carried special appeal for his female audience. Among his hit recordings were "I Get Ideas," ''To Each His Own," ''Begin the Beguine" and "There's No Tomorrow."

"He's the ultimate crooner who outlasted all is contemporaries," musician and longtime friend Gabriel Guerrero said from his Oregon home. Martin recently sang to Guerrero over the telephone.

"He has truly remained the butterscotch baritone until he was 98," Guerrero added.

Although he never became a full-fledged movie star, he was featured in 25 films, most of them made during the heyday of the Hollywood musicals. A husky 6 feet tall and dashingly handsome, he was often cast as the romantic lead.

He also married two movie musical superstars, Alice Faye and Cyd Charisse, and the latter union lasted 60 years, until her death in 2008.

Martin found his escape through music while growing up in San Francisco and Oakland amid a poor, close-knit Russian Jewish family, enduring taunts and slights from gentile classmates.

"I always sang," he wrote. "I always played some instrument or other, real or imagined. ... At first, of course, my music was just for my own fun. I didn't recognize it right away as my passport away from poverty."

Performing on radio led to his break into the film business. His first singing role came in the 1936 "Sing Baby Sing," which starred future wife Faye and introduced the Ritz Brothers to the screen as a more frenetic version of the Marx Brothers.

As a contract player at Twentieth Century-Fox, Martin also appeared in "Pigskin Parade" (featuring young Judy Garland), "Banjo on My Knee" (Barbara Stanwyck, Joel McCrea) "Sing and Be Happy," ''You Can't Have Everything" (Faye, Don Ameche) "Ali Baba Goes to Town" (comedian Eddie Cantor) and "Sally, Irene and Mary."

In 1940 he shifted to MGM and sang in such films as "The Ziegfeld Girl" (James Stewart, Lana Turner, Judy Garland), "The Big Store" (the Marx Brothers), "Till the Clouds Roll By," ''Easy to Love" (Esther Williams) and "Deep in My Heart."

In 1948, he produced and starred in "Casbah," a well-received film musical version of "Algiers" with a fine score by Harold Arlen and Leo Robin. He made singing tours of Europe and had a yearly contract at London's Palladium.

Martin had fallen in love with Faye while at Fox, where she was one of the studio's biggest stars. Married in 1937, the newlyweds were considered one of Hollywood's handsomest couples. But the marriage eroded because of career conflicts and his distaste for becoming known as Mr. Alice Faye. They divorced after two years.

Martin met Charisse, then a rising dance star at MGM, when they were dinner partners at a party given by their mutual agent. Just returned from the war, Martin was busy greeting old friends and paid her little attention.

They didn't meet until a year later, when the persistent agent arranged another date. This time they clicked, and they married in 1948. She had a son Nicky, born of her first marriage to dance director Nico Charisse. She gave birth to Tony Jr. in 1950.

Charisse became a star at MGM during the 1950s, dancing with Fred Astaire in "The Band Wagon" and "Silk Stockings" and Gene Kelly in "Singin' in the Rain" and "Brigadoon."

In later years, Martin and Charisee put out a 1976 double autobiography, "The Two of Us," and often toured in a singing and dancing shows. He continued appearances into his 90s, his voice only slightly tarnished by time.

"His voice is more or less intact," a New York Times critic wrote when he appeared at a New York club in early 2008. "Time has certainly taken its toll. He no longer belts. ... But the essential Tony Martin sound was still discernible."

Martin was born Dec. 25, 1913. His parents divorced when he was an infant.

"I was a Christmas present in a family that didn't believe in Christmas," Martin wrote. "The name they gave me when I was born on Christmas Day, 1913, was Alvin Morris. Tony Martin wasn't born for a long time after that."

He attended St. Mary's College of California, where he and other students formed a popular jazz combo, The Five Red Peppers. After college, he formed Al Morris and His Orchestra, and played in San Francisco nightclubs like the Chez Paree, often appearing on late-night national radio.

MGM chief Louis B. Mayer heard the bandleader sing "Poor Butterfly" on radio and ordered a screen test. It was a failure, but an agent landed Morris a contract at RKO, where he got a new name. He had enjoyed the music of Freddie Martin at the Coconut Grove, so he borrowed the name. "Tony" came from a magazine story.

His career at RKO was notable for a one-line bit in the 1936 "Follow the Fleet," which starred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. He had better luck at Fox, but nightclubbing every night with a succession of film beauties detracted from his work.

"I was so busy having fun that I didn't even learn my lines," he admitted in 1955. "I muffed a wonderful chance, and that was the end of me for a while."

World War II brought the one big scandal in his life. He enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and was given a specialist ranking. A year later, a Navy officer who facilitated Martin's enlistment was court-martialed, accused of accepting a $950 automobile from him. The singer was not charged but was dismissed from the Navy for unfitness. He asked his draft board for immediate induction into the Army and served three years in Asia.

The scandal lingered over Martin's head after the war, but he managed to rebuild his career with radio, films, personal appearances and records.

He is survived by stepson Nico Charisse.

Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City was handling funeral arrangements.

Diagnosis of Disorders of Psychosis | Anxiety Clinic & Health Care

Diagnosis of disorders of psychosisThe threshold for the determination whether the thought is damaged varies somewhat in different cultural contexts. As well as anxiety, psychotic symptoms can appear in a variety of mental disorders. They are associated in a very characteristic way with schizophrenia, but the psychotic symptoms may also appear in serious mood disorders.

One of the most common groups of symptoms that result from the disorder of the processing and interpretation of sensory information are hallucinations. Hallucination is called when an individual experiences a sensory impression that has no basis in reality. This impression may involve any of the sensory modalities. Thus, the hallucinations can be auditory, olfactory, gustatorias, kinesthetic, tactile or Visual. For example, auditory hallucinations often involve the impression that one is hearing a voice. In all cases, the sensory impression is falsely being experienced as real.

A more complex group of symptoms resulting from the alteration of the interpretation of the information consists of the delusions. A delusion is a false belief that has an individual despite the evidence otherwise. A common example is the paranoia, in which the person has delusional beliefs that others are trying to harm you. Attempts to persuade the person of their beliefs are unfounded, typically fail and may even result in additional reinforcement of their beliefs.

Hallucinations and delusions are among the most commonly observed psychotic symptoms. The lists of other symptoms that are seen in the Psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia are shown below.

Common manifestations of schizophrenia

Positive symptoms

? Hallucinations

? Delusions

? Thought and disorganized behavior

? Scattered or illogical thoughts

? Agitation

Negative symptoms

? Affectivity flat or abolished

? Specific thoughts

? Anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure)

? Minimal motivation, spontaneity and initiative

The symptoms of schizophrenia are divided into two broad classes: positive and negative symptoms.

In general, positive symptoms involve the experience of something in the consciousness that normally should not be present. For example hallucinations and delusions are perceptions or beliefs that should not occur normally. In addition to the hallucinations and delusions, patients with psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, often have great changes in the logical processing of your thoughts. In particular, the psychotic thought processes have the characteristic of being scattered, disorganized, illogical or extravagant. These alterations of the process of thought often produce a pattern of observable behavior that is also disorganized and extravagant. The severe alterations of the process and content of thought comprising positive symptoms often are the characteristics more recognizable and striking of psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia or manic-depressive illness.

However, in addition to the positive symptoms, patients with schizophrenia and other psychoses may also show important deficits in the motivation and spontaneity, what is referred to as negative symptoms. While the positive symptoms represent the presence of something that should not occur normally, negative symptoms reflect the absence of thoughts and behaviors that on the other hand it should be present. The specific thoughts represent the deterioration of the ability to think in the abstract. The abolition of affectivity represents the deterioration of the ability to express emotions. The lack of motivation and the inability to initiate activities represents the main source of disability long-term schizophrenia. The anhedonia reflected a deficit in the ability to experience pleasure and react appropriately to pleasant situations. Positive symptoms such as hallucinations are responsible for much of the distress associated with schizophrenia, but negative symptoms seem to be responsible for much of the chronic disability and long term associated with the disorder.

US sees Israel, tight Mideast ally, as spy threat

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The CIA station chief opened the locked box containing the sensitive equipment he used from his home in Tel Aviv, Israel, to communicate with CIA headquarters in Virginia, only to find that someone had tampered with it. He sent word to his superiors about the break-in.

The incident, described by three former senior U.S. intelligence officials, might have been dismissed as just another cloak-and-dagger incident in the world of international espionage, except that the same thing had happened to the previous station chief in Israel.

It was a not-so-subtle reminder that, even in a country friendly to the United States, the CIA was itself being watched.

In a separate episode, according to another two former U.S. officials, a CIA officer in Israel came home to find the food in the refrigerator had been rearranged. In all the cases, the U.S. government believes Israel's security services were responsible.

Such meddling underscores what is widely known but rarely discussed outside intelligence circles: Despite inarguable ties between the U.S. and its closest ally in the Middle East and despite statements from U.S. politicians trumpeting the friendship, U.S. national security officials consider Israel to be, at times, a frustrating ally and a genuine counterintelligence threat.

In addition to what the former U.S. officials described as intrusions in homes in the past decade, Israel has been implicated in U.S. criminal espionage cases and disciplinary proceedings against CIA officers and blamed in the presumed death of an important spy in Syria for the CIA during the administration of President George W. Bush.

The CIA considers Israel its No. 1 counterintelligence threat in the agency's Near East Division, the group that oversees spying across the Middle East, according to current and former officials. Counterintelligence is the art of protecting national secrets from spies. This means the CIA believes that U.S. national secrets are safer from other Middle Eastern governments than from Israel.

Israel employs highly sophisticated, professional spy services that rival American agencies in technical capability and recruiting human sources. Unlike Iran or Syria, for example, Israel as a steadfast U.S. ally enjoys access to the highest levels of the U.S. government in military and intelligence circles.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to talk publicly about the sensitive intelligence and diplomatic issues between the two countries.

The counterintelligence worries continue even as the U.S. relationship with Israel features close cooperation on intelligence programs that reportedly included the Stuxnet computer virus that attacked computers in Iran's main nuclear enrichment facilities. While the alliance is central to the U.S. approach in the Middle East, there is room for intense disagreement, especially in the diplomatic turmoil over Iran's nuclear ambitions.

"It's a complicated a relationship," said Joseph Wippl, a former senior CIA clandestine officer and head of the agency's office of congressional affairs. "They have their interests. We have our interests. For the U.S., it's a balancing act."

The way Washington characterizes its relationship with Israel is also important to the way the U.S. is regarded by the rest of the world, particularly Muslim countries.

U.S. political praise has reached a crescendo ahead of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's scheduled meeting Sunday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Their relationship spans decades, since their brief overlap in the 1970s at the Boston Consulting Group. Both worked as advisers for the firm early in their careers before Romney co-founded his own private-equity firm. Romney said in a speech this past week that Israel was "one of our fondest friends," and he criticized Obama for what he called the administration's "shabby treatment" of the Jewish state.

"The people of Israel deserve better than what they've received from the leader of the free world," Romney said in a plain appeal to U.S. Jewish and pro-Israel evangelical voters.

Obama, who last year was overheard appearing to endorse criticism of Netanyahu from then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy, has defended his work with Israel. "We've gotten a lot of business done with Israel over the last three years," Obama said this year. "I think the prime minister ? and certainly the defense minister ? would acknowledge that we've never had closer military and intelligence cooperation."

An Israeli spokesman in Washington, Lior Weintraub, said his country has close ties with the U.S.

"Israel's intelligence and security agencies maintain close, broad and continuous cooperation with their U.S. counterparts," Weintraub said. "They are our partners in confronting many mutual challenges. Any suggestion otherwise is baseless and contrary to the spirit and practice of the security cooperation between our two countries."

    The CIA declined comment.

The tension exists on both sides.

The National Security Agency historically has kept tabs on Israel. The U.S., for instance, does not want to be caught off guard if Israel launches a surprise attack that could plunge the region into war and jeopardize oil supplies, putting American soldiers at risk.

Matthew Aid, the author of "The Secret Sentry," about the NSA, said the U.S. started spying on Israel even before the state was created in 1948. Aid said the U.S. had a station on Cyprus dedicated to spying on Israel until 1974. Today, teams of Hebrew linguists are stationed at Fort Meade, Md., at the NSA, listening to intercepts of Israeli communications, he said.

CIA policy generally forbids its officers in Tel Aviv from recruiting Israeli government sources, officials said. To do so would require approval from senior CIA leaders, two former senior officials said. During the Bush administration, the approval had to come from the White House.

Israel is not America's closest ally, at least when it comes to whom Washington trusts with the most sensitive national security information. That distinction belongs to a group of nations known informally as the "Five Eyes." Under that umbrella, the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand agree to share intelligence and not to spy on one another. Often, U.S. intelligence officers work directly alongside counterparts from these countries to handle highly classified information not shared with anyone else.

Israel is part of by a second-tier relationship known by another informal name, "Friends on Friends." It comes from the phrase "Friends don't spy on friends," and the arrangement dates back decades. But Israel's foreign intelligence service, the Mossad, and its FBI equivalent, the Shin Bet, both considered among the best in the world, have been suspected of recruiting U.S. officials and trying to steal American secrets.

Around 2004 or 2005, the CIA fired two female officers for having unreported contact with Israelis. One of the women acknowledged during a polygraph exam that she had been in a relationship with an Israeli who worked in the Foreign Ministry, a former U.S. official said. The CIA learned the Israeli introduced the woman to his "uncle." That person worked for Shin Bet.

Jonathan Pollard, who worked for the Navy as a civilian intelligence analyst, was convicted of spying for Israel in 1987 when the Friends on Friends agreement was in effect. He was sentenced to life in prison. The Israelis for years have tried to win his release. In January 2011, Netanyahu asked Obama to free Pollard and acknowledged that Israel's actions in the case were "wrong and wholly unacceptable."

Ronald Olive, a former senior supervisor with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service who investigated Pollard, said that after the arrest, the U.S. formed a task force to determine what government records Pollard had taken. Olive said Israel turned over so few that it represented "a speck in the sand."

In the wake of Pollard, the Israelis promised not to operate intelligence agents on U.S. soil.

A former Army mechanical engineer, Ben-Ami Kadish, pleaded guilty in 2008 to passing classified secrets to the Israelis during the 1980s. His case officer was the same one who handled Pollard. Kadish let the Israelis photograph documents about nuclear weapons, a modified version of an F-15 fighter jet and the U.S. Patriot missile air defense system. Kadish, who was 85 years old when he was arrested, avoided prison and was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine. He told the judge that, "I thought I was helping the state of Israel without harming the United States."

In 2006, a former Defense Department analyst was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for giving classified information to an Israeli diplomat and two pro-Israel lobbyists.

Despite the Pollard case and others, Olive said he believes the two countries need to maintain close ties "but do we still have to be vigilant? Absolutely. The Israelis are good at what they do."

During the Bush administration, the CIA ranked some of the world's intelligence agencies in order of their willingness to help in the U.S.-led fight against terrorism. One former U.S. intelligence official who saw the completed list said Israel, which hadn't been directly targeted in attacks by al-Qaida, fell below Libya, which recently had agreed to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

The espionage incidents have done little to slow the billions of dollars in money and weapons from the United States to Israel. Since Pollard's arrest, Israel has received more than $60 billion in U.S. aid, mostly in the form of military assistance, according to the Congressional Research Service. The U.S. has supplied Israel with Patriot missiles, helped pay for an anti-missile defense program and provided sensitive radar equipment to track Iranian missile threats.

Just on Friday, Obama said he was releasing an additional $70 million in military aid, a previously announced move that appeared timed to upstage Romney's trip, and he spoke of America's "unshakable commitment to Israel." The money will go to help Israel expand production of a short-range rocket defense system.

Some CIA officials still bristle over the disappearance of a Syrian scientist who during the Bush administration was the CIA's only spy inside Syria's military program to develop chemical and biological weapons. The scientist was providing the agency with extraordinary information about pathogens used in the program, former U.S. officials said about the previously unknown intelligence operation.

At the time, there was pressure to share information about weapons of mass destruction, and the CIA provided its intelligence to Israel. A former official with direct knowledge of the case said details about Syria's program were published in the media. Although the CIA never formally concluded that Israel was responsible, CIA officials complained to Israel about their belief that Israelis were leaking the information to pressure Syria to abandon the program. The Syrians pieced together who had access to the sensitive information and eventually identified the scientist as a traitor.

Before he disappeared and was presumed killed, the scientist told his CIA handler that Syrian Military Intelligence was focusing on him.

Small Business Outsourcing: How to Save Time and Increase Your ...

Do you have a small business superhero complex? It?s what happens when you think you can do it all yourself. On top of doing the work that you do best, you?re tackling accounting, marketing, design ? the whole works!

If your goal is to work yourself into an early grave, keep on going! If you?d rather have a thriving business with some time to rest and relax, then it?s time to outsource. Avoiding outsourcing when your business is growing can hold you back. By outsourcing in several key areas, you can save time, boost your personal productivity and help your business bloom

    What Can I Outsource?

Outsourcing can cover everything from web design to answering client emails and everything in between. Outsourcing for your small business will typically fall into one of three categories:

    • Highly skilled expertise: This category of outsourcing includes reaching out to expert consultants to get their guidance. Even though you wear all the hats in your small business, you can outsource to a financial expert a few times a month to get CFO level insight into your business books. The same goes for marketing, strategic business building or any other higher level decision making areas.
    • Repetitive tasks: As the owner of your own business, you don?t need to spend your weekends adding new social media followers or filing receipts. Repetitive tasks like these can be outsourced to an assistant, virtual or otherwise, to free up your time.
    • Specialized skills: You?re excellent at what you do, but there are dozens of other tasks that go into running your business that you aren?t so great at ? like web design, copywriting or accounting. These specialized skills should be outsourced so you can get the level of quality that you need to run or market your business.

Yes ? virtually anything can be outsourced. But before you start, you need to make some critical decisions about how much you can afford to outsource.

Figuring Out Your Outsourcing Budget Caps

When you?re bootstrapping your small business, the last thing you want to do is spend money that you don?t have to. That?s why the first important step in outsourcing is figuring out your costs ? no matter what category of outsourcing you?ll be using.

There are two types of outsourcing needs most small business have ? ongoing monthly needs and special project needs. For special projects, like the launch of a new website, you?re going to have to budget for the entire project at once. If you have no idea what the project might cost, get quotes from several providers or run a test project on a freelance job board to see what the standard is (more about those job boards later).

For monthly time saving tasks, you?ll need to figure out how much time you?ll save by outsourcing and compare that to your typical hourly rate. If you?re a business coach charging $100 per hour, and you?re spending five hours per month handling your accounts receivable and payable, then that?s $500 you?re spending on that task. If you can find a bookkeeper to do that all for $65, that?s savings of $175 each and every month ? which equals an extra $2100 per year in possible billable time.

Look through your typical business week and figure out where you can save some time. Are you spending a lot of time on customer follow-up? Are you pre-filling social media updates a few hours each week? Are you blogging when you should be coding? All of these tasks can be outsourced to save you more money.

    How to Find Good Talent

Once you?ve decided what you need to outsource, and how much budget you have to work with, it?s time to start your search. Finding the right contracts is critical to making outsourcing work for you. There are few different ways you can find the right help:

    • Referrals: Ask your professional network. Reach out to a few key contacts and let them know what you?re looking for. Finding a contractor through your existing network should be your first stop. The service provider has a proven track record with your contact, so you know they can be trusted.
    • Social Media: Any social media site can connect you with a potential service provider, but LinkedIn is often the best place to start your search because you can get more in depth information about a provider?s experience.
    • Freelance Job Boards and Bidding Sites: Posting ads on job boards or using a bidding site like eLance, Guru or oDesk can put you in touch with a number of different providers all at once. You can post your job description and service providers will contact you through the service to give you a quote and show you their experience.

    Making the Right Hire

Any of these resources can be a good place to find a service provider, but your intake process is what really makes the difference between an outsourcing nightmare and a great working relationship. Here are some keys to making the right hire for your needs:

    Get to the Point

Making a great hire starts with your job description. In order to get the best price and the best talent, you need to be clear about what you need. Be as descriptive as possible in your request whether you?re emailing a referral or posting a job board. This gives your potential hire a good idea what you?ll need so they can price accordingly.

For example instead of asking for ?a 500 word article on taxes for small business owners? try to get specific.

?I am a small business accountant who needs regular blog posts on small business topics, including finances. For this article, I?d like an article on the newest exemptions that small business owners are eligible for. Please include subheadings throughout the article, and make it actionable. The word length should be between ?

    Review as Much As Possible

Once you have a few people to get in touch with, or several bids that look promising on a job board, you need to carefully review their past work. If you?re outsourcing designers or copywriters, this is pretty straight forward. But how about an administrative assistant, bookkeeper or marketing coach? They don?t have a portfolio ? but they do have referrals. Check out their LinkedIN profile and ask if you can speak to past clients.

    Ask the Right Questions

In addition to reviewing samples and speaking with past and current clients, you need to talk with your potential hire directly. Getting an in person interview with your potential service provider is ideal, but if that doesn?t pan out be sure to get them some questions via email. Here?s a short list of what to include so you can get a feel for their experience, their process and your expected results.?

?1.?How long have you been doing _____________(bookkeeping, graphics, content writing, etc)?

This gives you some insight into how experienced they are in their chosen field.

2.?Why did you decide to become a ____________?

This is a good question to learn about their background and judge their enthusiasm for their field.

3.?What are your primary skills that you?d say you?re best at?

Avoid anyone who says ?everything.? All professional service providers have something their best at doing ? and are proud to share it.

4.?What other skills do you have that can do but aren?t doing much of right now?

As your small business needs expand, you?ll probably need them to do more tasks for you. This gives you a good idea of how you can proceed.

5.?How many clients do you currently have on your active roster?

This gives you an idea of their workload and whether or not they?ll have the time to devote to your work.

    6.?What is your process like?

A great service provider has a specific way that they work in order to be efficient and effective.

    7. What are your typical working hours?

This is very important if you?re hiring a virtual assistant or someone you?ll need to be in live contact with frequently.

8.?Do you work on a retainer or a project basis?

This is essential to know ahead of time. Many VAs charge upfront retainers each month. Be sure you know how much work you?ll need before you hire.

Depending on the nature of your project, and the type of service provider you?re looking for, these questions may need to be adapted. Use them as springboard for your own list of questions.

Get Started with Your New Provider

Let?s say you?ve found just the person you need ? they have the skill set and the referrals, and they passed your interview process with flying colors. Now it?s time to dump a bunch of work on them, right? Wrong. No matter how great a provider looks on paper, you need to start small. Test them out with a smaller project to see how you work together. This will give you a better idea of their style. If you?re working with a virtual assistant, hire them for a specific set of tasks and see how they work. If it?s a graphic or web designer you?re testing out, have them work on a small ad or social media background before handing over a larger project. The same goes for writers ? test out an article or two before you have them create a content marketing campaign.

You don?t have to start small with just one provider though. Why not test two or three at once to narrow down your choices even faster? If you need three articles written, select three different content creators and see how the process works. It will let you test out their responsiveness, attention to detail and directly compare their work.

Before you start working with your new hires, you?ll also need a contract to cover everything that you and your client will do together. There are dozens of freelance contractor agreements that will work with a few adaptations. No matter what you select, be sure a lawyer looks over the final version so you can be sure you?re covered. The contract should cover the type of work to be completed, the amount you?ll pay and important milestones.

With signed contract in hand, and a small project in mind, you can hire your new service provider and let them make your life easier. If they knock the ball out of the park, start giving them more work to boost your profitability and save some time.

    Good luck!

Get Back An Ex Boyfriend Using Your Past History Together

Get Back An Ex Boyfriend Using Your Past History Together

Loving your ex even after a breakup is a difficult position in which to find yourself. You've probably tried everything at your disposal to re-establish a connection. You've sent emails and texts. You've probably even tried giving your ex the silent treatment. Nothing has worked out to your advantage and you're no closer to getting your ex back than you were when you broke up in the first place. Where do you go now? Which direction is best in your situation? What if you make a mistake? Is it already too late?

All these questions are probably circling around your head and you're at a loss. The biggest question is weighing heavily on your mind - is there a way to spark your ex's interest again without making a fool of yourself in the process?

You're looking for the answers in all the wrong places. The solution has been staring you in the face every time you look in the mirror, and you never even considered the possibility. What drove you two together in the first place? You have a shared history together, and there is every reason to believe that bringing that history to life can successfully recreate the spark that you used to share. If you exercise caution, there is no reason to think that your ex won't be just as drawn to you as he used to be. Getting back an ex boyfriend is simple if you start to use your mind in a different way, when things finally open up for you, you will wonder why you didn't do these things before.

    Understand Your Ex's Current Position

Your ex-boyfriend didn't just end things with you on a whim. He had his reasons - regardless of how silly those reasons may seem to you. Any attempt you made to reason with him or to get him to reconsider his position fell on deaf ears. You never give him a valid explanation for why staying with you would make anything any different than the way things were. He had no logical expectation that anything between you would change.

Most women make a crucial mistake at this point. They are so wrapped up in their own emotions that they never stop to think what's going on in the mind of their ex. What you need to do is pause for a moment and intentionally change your perspective. Look at the big picture and think of things from your ex's point of view. Only then can you truly understand the error in his thinking.

    Recreate Your Spark

Relationships often change over time, and those changes can lead to a breakup over time. Changes are a natural part of the passing of time but it can also drastically impact the dynamic in a romantic relationship and that can be hard to accept. Attraction is based largely on the allure of the unknown. Exploring the differences and similarities between you was exciting and it fostered a certain intensity that was always present underneath the surface.

That feeling of intense excitement is what you need to harness in order to get back an ex-boyfriend. You can trigger those feelings in him again- chances are that they're still there, buried underneath the surface. Bringing them to the surface doesn't have to be a hard challenge. If you can successfully recapture the initial scenarios that brought you together, he will not only want to be with you again but he will absolutely have to. The attraction is critical to achieve prior to thinking a romance is possible. If you make your move before that attraction can be revitalized your efforts are doomed to fail.

What worked at the start of your relationship will work again. The challenge is to figure out what those things were and then alter any of your traits that may have shifted throughout the natural course of your dating relationship.

After you think you have the answers, the next part is putting it into practice. You need to have a set plan in place that can help you accomplish your goal - and just making snap decisions on the fly isn't going to cut it. You need to know how to approach him, how to express yourself effectively and when you should approach him. You should also be consciously aware of how you're behaving and modify those actions in his presence.

    Ignite His Desire

You already have a head start in this process that no one else can have. You have an entire relationship of memories that the two of you created together, and nothing can replace those memories. The longer you spent together, the bigger a bank of memories you have to utilize to your advantage. All you need to do now is find the well of your ex's emotions and learn to access it correctly. This is how to get back an ex boyfriend without losing your self respect.

If you can successfully find the answers to the things he's drawn to the most, you can recreate specific scenarios that will instantly transport him back in time and make him feel the way he used to. The way he sees you will change, but it's not instantaneous. You have to be willing to be patient and allow that nagging thought in the back of his mind to grow into a full-blown idea. Then his emotions will come into play, and pretty soon he'll be begging for the chance to be with you again.

    Next Steps

Gaining his attraction again is a crucial part of this whole process. Without that, none of your other attempts will make any headway. You'll just be treading water in an already stagnant pool of water. Don't leave it up to chance and just try to play things by ear. You need to know all the right moves before you make them and you need to have a concrete plan in place.

You need to foster that longing that he still has for you and make him miss you in his life. This longing is the trigger that will make him want to apologize and make everything right again. You need to remind him cleverly how good a partner you were without slapping him with the realization off the bat. You need to stick to your guns and settle in for the long haul - this process can take some time but it's worth it if you're patient.

Scientists: Heat wave hurts London air quality

LONDON (AP) ? British scientists say a heat wave has caused London's air quality to deteriorate, which could affect athletes' performances at the Olympics.

Scientists from King's College in London say pollution in the British capital has reached the highest level in six years. Recent sunshine and low winds are "exactly the conditions that can bring summertime smog to London," the environmental experts said in a statement Thursday.

They also launched a website that offers hourly air quality updates on a venue-by-venue and street-by-street basis.

London has the largest and most advanced air quality surveillance systems in Europe. Funded by the government, they are run by the King's College center, whose researchers combine air pollution science, toxicology and epidemiology to determine the impact of air pollution on health.

ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) ? Cal Ripken Jr.'s 74-year-old mother was found with her hands bound in the back seat of her car Wednesday after she said she was kidnapped at gunpoint a day earlier at her home outside Baltimore and driven around blindfolded by her abductor, police and neighbors said.

Investigators do not know the kidnapper's motive and there was no ransom demand for Vi Ripken's release, Aberdeen Police Chief Henry Trabert said at a news conference.

The gunman forced Ripken into her silver Lincoln Continental between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday, police said. She was found bound and unharmed but shaken about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday near her home in Aberdeen, about 30 miles northeast of Baltimore.

When asked if police believe the kidnapper knew who he was abducting, Trabert did not answer, saying investigators don't know the motive or if the suspect has any ties to the Ripken family.

A next-door neighbor said Vi Ripken told him her kidnapper didn't seem to know that her son was the Hall of Fame infielder nicknamed "Iron Man" for playing in 2,632 consecutive games during his 21-year career with the Baltimore.

Gus Kowalewski said he spoke with Vi Ripken later Wednesday morning and she told him the gunman tied her hands and put a blindfold on her, but said he wouldn't hurt her.

"He lit cigarettes for her, they stopped for food," Kowalewski said. "He said, 'I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to take you back,' and that's what he did."

Kowalewski said Ripken told him the gunman originally planned to put tape over her eyes.

"But he didn't do that because she said 'please don't do that 'cause I'm claustrophobic,'" said Kowalewski, a 72-year-old retired autoworker.

Instead, the gunman put some type of mask or blinders on her, and she could see somewhat out the sides, he said.

Ripken told her neighbor the gunman also didn't seem to know she was part of the Ripken family, who is well-known throughout the Baltimore area and to baseball fans all over.

"He said he just wanted money and her car," Kowalewski said.

Three years after voluntarily ending his Iron Man streak, Ripken Jr. retired in 2001. He is the chairman and founder of Ripken Baseball Inc., which he runs along with his brother, Bill.

He owns three minor-league baseball teams, including the Single A IronBirds based at the Ripken Baseball complex in Aberdeen, a middle-class area of about 15,000 people. Kowalewski said Ripken told him the gunman asked her about items in the car related to the Ironbirds and did not seem to know about the team.

Mike Hudson, 43, whose mother lives across the street from Ripken, said he was surprised the kidnapper came back to the neighborhood because police were swarming over the area about midnight.

"It's just hard to believe the guy came all the way back on the street and dropped her off. That makes me believe he was local, very local," said Hudson, who is staying at his mother's house while visiting with his daughter.

"I came out again at like five something, and all that scene was gone, I remember that. When I came out at eight, it was all crazy again with helicopters going over and I saw the car right away," Hudson said.

Ripken's car didn't appear to be damaged, he said.

"This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy," the Ripken family said in a statement. "We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly."

Investigators determined that Ripken was missing Tuesday night after talking to Baltimore County Police, who notified the media about her disappearance shortly before she was found. The county borders the one where Aberdeen is located.

Aberdeen authorities have asked Baltimore County Police not to release its 911 tapes because the investigation is continuing. Police also would not say whether Ripken's credit or ATM cards had been used.

Vi Ripken described her abductor as a tall, thin white man with glasses wearing camouflage clothing, but police had no other details. The FBI and Maryland State Police were also involved in the investigation.

Ripken's brother, Bill, played second base in the major leagues. The two were managed for a time on the Orioles by their father and Vi's husband, Cal Ripken Sr., who died in 1999.

The family said that it could not comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

After the gunman left, Ripken honked her car's horn until a neighbor found her, Kowalewski said. He said he was surprised the honking didn't wake him up. Someone reported a suspicious car to authorities and she was found, police said.

Vi Ripken is founding chairwoman of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, which, according to its website, helps to build character for disadvantaged young people. Besides Cal and Bill, she has another son and a daughter.

The Ripken Baseball complex also is home to the annual Cal Ripken World Series for 11- and 12-year-olds. Cal Ripken Baseball is the name for the 5-to-12-year-old division of the Babe Ruth League.

Ripken's business empire also includes youth baseball camps and clinics, a minor-league stadium design firm, a merchandising arm and a charitable foundation. Ripken has no formal role with the Orioles but has spoken about his desire to return to the team.

Ripken works as a studio analyst for TBS during its postseason baseball coverage. He is a pitchman for brands including Energizer, Under Armour and Chevrolet.
