Stress when you?re a mother is a given. We?ve got a lot going on ? but that doesn?t mean that when stress attacks it?s a hopeless situation.
Getting a grasp on your stressors is key, and knowing how to tackle them is paramount.
Here are three tips to help us mamas deal with our stress and stop it in its tracks.
Put It In Perspective
When you see any problem as a mountain rather than a molehill, your outlook on it can go awry.
But when you break big things down into smaller, more manageable expectations then they don?t seem so enormous.
Unless it?s a matter of life or death, there?s nothing in your life that should make you stress enough that you lose your sense of the here and now.
Putting your stress into a perspective that works for you is really what it?s all about.
Analyze yourself and find your relaxing triggers ? they could be counting to five, taking deep breaths, going for a quick run ? whatever you find that quickly relaxes you and brings you back to the now is what you want to strive for when it comes to your perspective.
Write It Down
Writing things down is such a fantastic catharsis for anyone. Your emotions need to breathe and writing them down gives them the freedom they need to find a new home.
Letting your emotions flow and exercising your mind allows for you to see things a little clearer since you?re able to get your stress triggers from emotional limbo down on something tangible, like paper.
Write out what?s stressing you, this can be anything and everything from paying the bills to folding the laundry.
One of the big problems with stress is that it can make you feel like you?re helpless at tackling those situations that were the triggers for your stress in the first place.
This act of writing things down will help you to realize that not only do you have options to tackle your stress but that once you get your stressors out on paper for you to analyze, coming up with a plan to resolve the issues will come more easily to you.
Set Reasonable Expectations
Don?t expect to conquer big items like your credit card debt in a matter of weeks. Problems such as these take time and effort to resolve.
Always remember to put your stressors into a realistic setting and timeline so that they don?t overwhelm you anymore than they already have.
If you know that you can?t afford to splurge on a family vacation this year, then learn to accept that and let it go. You can plan a very affordable (and even free) staycation at home that will help the family unwind together in a comfortable setting without spending hundreds of dollars in the process.
- Be realistic, set boundaries, and don?t take on more than you can handle.
- Beating stress before it becomes a problem is your goal. Putting it into a tangible perspective is what you want to be aiming for.
